The ARP-87 from Walrus Audio is the most creative and versatile delay available today, packed with perfect functionality in a compact design, including full tap tempo support, four modes (plus one hidden mode) focused on practical sounds, an X knob for adjusting modulation and filters, tone control for the delay sound, and various switch actions. This is a delay that I personally highly recommend, but if you listen to the "Digital Mode" first and are amazed by its outstanding sound quality, then I highly recommend checking out the "Analog Mode." I recommend cutting the high frequencies a little with the DAMPEN knob (turning the knob back a little from the maximum position, around 3 o'clock is best!). This will give you the beautiful, mild, warm sound of an analog delay. Furthermore, adding a little modulation with the X knob will create an incredibly organic "tape echo" sound. Increasing the amount of oscillation will simulate the dirty heads and wow and flutter of a tape echo machine. The sound of the ARP-87's "Analog Mode" is truly recommended, so be sure to check it out. Other features include a "Lo-Fi Mode" with an impressive low-cut filter, a short delay "Slap Mode," and a fantastical hidden mode known as "Easter Egg." Furthermore, the ability to apply delay to just one part of a song with a single action of the foot switch, or to max out the X knob and repeat, further enhances the ARP-87's creative potential.
