Queen Rearing Class - June 6, 2026 ONLY Date: June 6, 2026 Time: 9 am - 4 pm Location: Bemis Honey Bee Farm Catered Lunch & Supplies Included Join us for an educational, hands-on q ueen-rearing experience. EAS Certified Master Beekeeper, Richard Underhill teaches this class. The class includes lectures, hands-on grafting, and time in the bee yard. Supplies include a cell bar frame, a plastic grafting tool, queen cups, and a queen-rearing guidebook. This course will involve our discussing the following topics: Biology of the reproductive members of the bee colony: the queen and drones; Arrangement of bee yards for queen rearing; Drone Concentration Areas; Timing of queen development and beekeeper’s activities; Evaluating queens and stock improvement; Establishing the required nucleus hives. The class will also practice grafting queens using the Doolittle Method. Items you may want to bring: Headlamp and handheld magnifying glass (for seeing into the cells), notebook, pen, and safety gear for the bee yard.
