Originally released in 1961 on the Cook Laboratories label, Le Jazz Primitif from Trinidad is an extraordinary example of the jazz scene on this West Indies isle. Side a features a group led by Rupert Clemendore, an amazing drummer, percussionist, and vibes player, covering territory from American jazz and R&B, to Calypso. Side B, led by bassist John Buddy Williams, is more straight forward calypso though it is not without Jazz and R&B influences.
