Producer Pieropan was started by Leonildo Pieropan in 1901. He was a local doctor who wanted to pursue his passion for wine, so he purchased a property in Soave and planted vines. In 1966 Pieropan was passed down to Leonnildo's nephew and namesake, also Leonildo Pieropan. He had completed degrees in oenology and viticulture and was eager to grow the business, acquiring new vineyards and converting the vineyards to organic farming practices. In the 1970's, he released two single Vinyeard Soaves, Vigneto Calvarino and Vigneto La Rocca; this was some of the first single vineyard Italian whites to be released ever. Leonildo has since passed and now the fourth generation, his sons Andrea and Daria run the vineyard. Leonildo was forward-thinking, passionate and responsible for bringing Soave to the world stage, and for that, we are very thankful! Tasting Note Soave Classico is the freshest, earliest release from the Pieropan family. Aromas jump from the glass of pear, white florals, melon and a lovely fresh green herbal note. The acid is exuberant, and you're left wanting another sip, with flavours of lemon zest, ripe orchard fruit, and minerality. This wine has something for everyone and is a sure crowd pleaser. Made with mostly Gargeniga and a little bit of Trebbiano, as is typical for the region.
