Mainframe's sample rate reduction can be set from 48KHz to 110Hz. Sample rate is the number of times per second that a sample or snapshot of an analog signal is taken. For example, a CD has a sample rate of 44.1 kHz, which means that the original analog audio source is sampled 44,100 times per second. Reducing the sample rate will result in lower quality audio and aliasing. Mainframe's sample rates range from pristine to extremely difficult to recognize. It also has a bit crush function ranging from 24 bits to 1 bit. Higher bit depths allow for more accurate dynamic range and creative degradation of the sound, returning it to that "old school" sound we all love. Another very cool feature is the sample rate tuning mode, which analyzes the incoming signal in real time and sets the sample rate to match the pitch of the signal, as well as setting it to the interval above for the signal.
