This module will be focused on Digital Twins in the AEC Industry. Digital Twins represent a new trend with several potential applications in Architecture. A Digital Twin is a digital copy of reality that enables a user to simulate and find answers in a risk free and secure environment. This module will introduce what a Digital Twin is and why it is relevant for the AEC Industry. It will cover benefits and values that this technology can bring, explaining the positive effects it could have, for example in the field of sustainability and building life management. The speaker will discuss technologies to enable the creation and management of Digital Twins and relative challenges to apply this technology in the AEC Industry. These technologies involve the use of 3D modelling and Game Engines to create VR Applications capable of linking physical data to digital models. The module will then cover some key studies of Digital Twins that offer an example of current industry standards and will discuss the technologies that have been used to develop these projects. Using case studies, the module will highlight the potential business applications of these technologies and how these could be applied in Architecture projects both from the consultant and client side.
