20682 Berber Moroccan Rug with Tribal Design, Berber Moroccan Rug 06'09 x 10'02 From Esmaili Rugs Collection. This hand-knotted wool vintage Berber Moroccan rug features an asymmetrical lozenge trellis pattern on a neutral background. Disproportional black lines form a diamond lattice on a field of creamy-beige. This Moroccan rug is rich in Ancient Berber culture, as the design displays a host of reproductive symbolism frequently found in Berber made rugs. The "X" shape near the centre is a symbol which is known to represent the open arms and legs of a woman who is ready to conceive. The fused triangles are a mating symbol. A diamond shape, subtly featured here, is the prediction of a pregnancy. Lacking a written language, the Berber Tribe and Beni Ourain weavers created pieces rich in symbolism and history to document their everyday existence. Rendered in variegated shades of black, charcoal, vanilla, cream and beige. Abrash. Hand-knotted wool. Hand-woven wool. Made in Morocco. Berber Tribes of Morocco. Measures: 06'09 x 10'02.
