20605 Vintage Berber Moroccan Rug with Tribal Style 6'06 x 8'07 From Esmaili Rugs Collection. This Vintage Berber Moroccan Rug evokes imagery of power and majesty. Deep crimson, royal purple, and majestic orange are colors that associate greatly with grandeur and nobility. In the central square of the piece, the primary geometric pattern revolves around the diamond, which is a symbol frequently used in Ancient Berber rug-making to symbolize the prediction of a pregnancy. However, this piece includes many other symbols relating to this motif. The border that surrounds the center of the rug includes a couple of different symbols as well. On the vertical edges of the rug, the “X” shape is known to represent the open arms and legs of a woman ready for conception. The bar shape that connects the squares on the horizontal border is a much more uncommon symbol in Ancient Berber rug-making. The shape of the bar or rod is known to symbolize the participation of the male in reproduction. A dark colored border houses the entirety of the rug, tying together the different colors and patterns in solidarity. Hand-knotted. Made in Morocco. Berber Tribes of Morocco. Measures: 6'06 x 8'07.
