[Perfect 50's sound] "WOODSHED" refers to a barn or firewood shed, and is a slang term used by jazz players to describe practicing all day in a small space where they can concentrate alone. This pickup was named with respect for Andy Wood's tireless pursuit of guitar playing and his tireless efforts. Andy Wood prides himself on being the player who is more particular than anyone else about the "woody sound" and "twangy tone" that vintage T pickups have. When John Suhr began designing the pickup for his signature guitar, he recalled a time when he rewound a vintage T pickup for guitar pioneer Les Paul to recreate the supreme tone of the good old days. Following the detailed notes he left behind of the process, he wound plain enamel wire in a similar pattern and combined it with a custom Alnico 5 magnet to create the WOODSHED.
