Sunn Model T inspired Preamp / Overdrive Overwhelmingly dark. Overwhelmingly present. The legendary Model T preamp/overdrive. The Model FeT is a guitar pedal inspired by the legendary Sunn Model T amplifier, which has a huge fanbase. It has very high headroom and a powerful output, and can be used as both a preamp and an overdrive. It reproduces a high-level tone that is indistinguishable from the original, bringing the iconic Model T sound right to your feet. Used alone, the mid-scoop makes for an impressive drive. Push it with some pre-stage fuzz or distortion for a tone so heavy and loud it'll blow your mind. It not only has that "sound" of stoner and doom metal, but also has versatility that transcends genres. Its dark and clear presence sets it apart from the simple amp-like sounds that flood the market, making it truly one of a kind. Overview Model feT is a preamp/overdrive modeled after the Sunn Model T amplifier, which is extremely popular among doom sound enthusiasts. The famous Model T sound was primarily achieved by stacking distortion and fuzz in front of the amp. This unit does not reproduce the "doom sound using a Model T" but rather the "Model T itself," and has a very unique sound that is different from existing amp-like pedals. On its own, it can access the characteristic "dirty clean" to crunch and hard drive. It has enough headroom to easily handle fuzz and distortion signals, and when stacked it produces an intense, heavy high-gain sound that will blow everything away. What is particularly noteworthy is the high headroom provided by the emulated power amp, with amp-like saturation and compression, and a dark yet clear and unique character that is present in all settings. It can produce a powerful output level, and there is no problem sending the signal directly to a power amplifier, cabinet simulator, or DAW. Like the original Model T, it has two gains, Brite and Normal, in parallel. While Normal increases the gain in a relatively neutral manner, Brite focuses on the sparkling mid-range components. Blending the two in parallel creates the distinctive, biting drive sound that is unique to the Model T. The tone controls are also faithful to the original, with bass, treble, and midrange controls interacting with each other to create the key to sound creation. It allows for more precise tuning of the exquisitely mid-scooped Model T sound. This is a typical EAE preamp/overdrive that is packed with respect for the Model T amp itself. ■What is Model T? In the early 1970s, Sunn released the Model T amplifier head to compete with the then-dominant Marshall amplifiers. It actually imitated the circuitry of the Super Bass (which itself was a copy of the Fender 5F6A Bassman), but its main feature was the addition of a large-capacity, ultra-linear power amplifier. Inspired by Dynaco tube hi-fi equipment, this power amplifier gave the Model T an impressive 150 watts of power and significantly cleaner headroom than typical guitar amps of the time. Massive power output, deep response, and that iconic dirty clean sound make the Model T a special amp. Although Sunn's success was short-lived, their sound, which combines majestic wildness with ephemeral beauty, has been rediscovered in modern times, and it can be said that they redefined the guitar sound, especially in heavy music.■Controls Normal: Turning clockwise increases the gain of the Normal channel, which has a neutral voicing relative to Brite. Higher settings result in stronger distortion. 0 is completely muted. Brite: Turn clockwise to increase the gain of the Brite channel, which has a mid-range focused, sparkling voicing. Higher settings provide more high frequency presence. 0 is completely muted. Bass, Midrange, Treble: Just like the original amp, this is a 3-band FMV EQ with a moderate mid-scoop. Each control influences the other, and the control range is the same as the real thing, so you should feel familiar with it. Master: Sets the overall output volume. You can set it to anything from a clean sound to a volume loud enough to drive an external power amplifier. ■Specifications Bypass: Relay switching, true bypass Input impedance @ 1 kHz: 500kΩ・Output impedance @ 1KHz: 1kΩ・Power: 9V DC, 2.1 mm center negative, 65mA A regulated, isolated power supply of 100mA or greater is recommended. Battery operation is not possible.
