EONS, the third installment in Walrus Audio's Five-State series, is a new fuzz pedal that offers five thick, thumping sounds that will blow through the grille cloth of any amplifie r. The newly added Voltage knob allows you to adjust the voltage from 3V to 18V, creating a wide range of fuzz sounds, from thick, open distortion to crackling, sizzling gated fuzz. ■VOLTAGE CONTROL The Voltage knob adjusts the circuit's operating voltage. At its minimum position, it draws approximately 3V, producing a lo-fi, "dead battery" sound. At its maximum position, it draws approximately 18V, producing a more open, less compressed sound with enhanced bass. As you turn the Voltage knob down, the sound becomes more hoarse and high-pitched. At the noon position, a gate is activated. Turning the knob down also reduces the volume. The Voltage effect varies depending on the 5-position mode selected. ■MODE SWITCH The rotary switch allows you to select between five modes, each with a different frequency response and clipping style, giving you five different fuzz sounds with just one pedal. I. Silicone Soft Clipping. Rounded and compressed, a traditional big fuzz tone. II. Silicon clipping + bass boost. Enhanced low end for a compressed, crunchy sound. III. Germanium Soft Clipping. Dynamic and crunchy tone that recreates "What if distortion and fuzz had a baby?" IV. LED Clipping Diode. Slightly cuts the high end for a dark, dynamic tone. V. LED + silicon soft clipping diode + hard clipping silicon transistor.
