The Germanium Preamp Pedal is a drive pedal that replaces the first-stage FET of our flagship Preamp Pedal with a germanium transistor. Utilizing the technology developed for the equally popular Germanium Boost, this amplifier is less susceptible to temperature changes and delivers the distinctive tone of germanium transistors without compromising frequency characteristics. Although the gain is slightly less than that of the Preamp Pedal, the rich sound of the germanium transistors adds nuance to a wide range of distortion sounds, from overdrive to fuzz-like sounds. A dream pedal has been born, combining the feel of a Germanium Boost with the tone control (EQ) of a Preamp Pedal! Note: Germanium transistors will stop transmitting sound when their temperature exceeds approximately 110°F (48.9°C).
