For 60 years, Latin Percussion (LP) has been creating high-quality percussion instr uments inspired by the legendary artists and music of mid-century Latin and jazz. At a time when many New York players had difficulty obtaining the Cuban drums they preferred, LP founder Martin Cohen worked with them to develop instruments tailored to their specifications, and LP was born. The LP60 collection pays tribute to the original LP instruments and artists who pioneered the future of Latin music, forging lasting connections with the music community. These commemorative instruments feature vintage features such as fiberglass bongos and congas, steel timbales with rolled-out bottoms, and new arrangements of LP originals like Afouché and Jam Block. [60TH ANNIVERSARY DANDY BONGOS] John "Dandy" Rodriguez is an icon who played a key role in the origins of the LP. In the early 1960s, Dandy performed with the "King of Latin," Tito Puente. He fostered connections between LP founder Martin Cohen and the Latino community, helping get the fledgling company off the ground. As part of the brand's 60th anniversary celebrations, LP is paying tribute to this living legend. We have released a limited edition Zebra Wood Bongo, reminiscent of the Zebra Bongos manufactured by LP in the 1970s. LP worked with DW's "wood lover," John Good, to source special zebrawood for the Dandy Bongos. Solid stave shell with 7-1/4" and 9" headstock and traditional chrome-plated hardware. This is a rare model with only 200 units produced worldwide, and each set includes Dandy's signature and serial number.
