The OCD is a very open-sounding overdrive/distortion circuit that differs from typical overdrives in that it uses a MOSFET for clipping, with the clipping point connected to the circuit's voltage reference (VREF) rather than ground. The result is a more interactive sound, whether you're picking softly or hard, compared to traditional diode-to-ground clipping overdrives. The OCD offers touch sensitivity, nuance, and complex harmonic overtones while preserving the inherent tone of the amp and guitar you're playing. Because of its enormous output, the OCD is ideal as an overdrive pedal in front of an amp or through a master volume amp, driving it much harder than other ODs. However, it also excels at creating unique distortion with the complex harmonic array of a Class A amp. Another great feature is that you can access sounds in between by simply turning down your guitar's volume control. OCD-Ge differs from other OCD versions in the following ways: Germanium Diodes: A matched pair of germanium diodes is used alongside a pair of mosfet diodes. This not only extends the clipping threshold, but clipping also takes on the "soft knee" characteristic of germanium diodes, giving it a tube-like feel and accentuating the octave-up harmonics. Audio (Log) Tapered Volume Pot: Early OCDs featured an Audio Tapered Volume pot, which allowed you to change the position at which the volume was released during the volume knob rotation sweep. The CS-OCD-Ge is slightly louder than a regular OCD, so we used an Audio Tapered. The Audio Tapered pot allows for fine adjustments in the bottom third of the pot's rotation. A more open sound: Thanks to the softer characteristics of the germanium diodes, internal values have been tweaked to allow more high frequencies through.Licensed by Jackson Audio.
