For trumpets, you can choose from six rim sizes, ten cup depths, and three material combinations. This is a mouthpiece that we can introduce as a new standard, regardless of genre, such as jazz or classical. What is a LOTUS mouthpiece? Incredibly easy to tune and play. Improved tone, accuracy, and durability. Familiar rim and cup make it easy to switch from other manufacturers. Three annealed materials—brass, bronze, and nickel silver—give you more control over tone, projection, and the balance between stability and flexibility. I, Adam Rapa, believe that mouthpiece choice is far more important than the trumpet you play. The mouthpiece is an instrument and a very important amplification device. What we call "sound" is determined more by the mouthpiece than by the trumpet. The mouthpiece plays a major role in determining the range, quality of articulation, flexibility, durability... the intonation of the entire instrument, the resistance you feel when moving air, and more. Your playing is affected more by the mouthpiece than the trumpet. This model was born from the desire to "make the XL2 cup larger and wider in sound, while still providing brilliant sound quality during large dynamics." By making the cup slightly deeper, we've achieved a sound with a striking depth, but without sacrificing the wild tonal character of the XL2 cup. Unusually for a mouthpiece of this cup depth, the high register is easily accessible. The XL3 offers the same creamy sweetness as the XL cup at soft dynamics, but when you gradually change the dynamics, you'll find dozens of subtle variations between pianissimo and mezzo forte, each with its own unique color, making for a truly diverse range of nuanced expression. Once you reach forte, the sound expands with the same brightness and excitement as the XL2 cup, but with a thicker core.
