In addition, functionality has been updated based on feedback from users worldwide, including the addition of a high-pass filter for each channel and an independent Hi-Z input on the front panel. The biggest upgrade to the SSL2MKII/SSL2+MKII is the change to the AD/DA converter. While the previous generation model used a 24-bit, 192kHz converter, the MKII uses a 32-bit, 192kHz converter. This is a best-in-class mic preamp designed with meticulous attention to detail to capture every nuance of your performance, with ample gain range to handle any microphone. Instead of using the typical IC circuitry found in many USB audio interfaces, the SSL development team took a different approach, combining specially selected discrete low-noise transistors with an IC in a two-stage circuit, resulting in the best possible noise performance and a wide gain range. Furthermore, the Analog Enhancement Circuit 4K switch adds high-frequency EQ boost/harmonics to give the input source an analog-like coloration, changing the sound image to that of the SSL4000E series consoles that were all the rage in the 1980s and are still in use in studios today. This 4K switch makes the sound source thicker and more vibrant, and is effective for sources such as vocals and guitars. The SSL2MKII/SSL2+MKII continues to feature this mic preamp and 4K switch.
