The most versatile and influential distortion pedal was invented in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1978. After playing, repairing and modifying every distortion pedal on the market, Scott Burnham and Steve Kiraly decided to develop something different. They set out to build a pedal capable of producing sounds ranging from overdrive to distortion and even fuzz, something not available in the then-dominant MXR, DOD, and even BOSS product lines. By 1979, Scott had perfected the circuit in his basement workshop surrounded by RATs, and the rest is history.
