The VLT (Vertical Low Timber) shell features vertical plies positioned to minimize tension, resulting in a lower pitch than standard shells and a low-tuned sound with sustain and attack. The hardware features include a 3mm "True Hoop" that maintains the open resonance of a pressed hoop while also providing a sharp attack, a "MAG Throw Off" switch that secures the switch magnetically, and a "5P Butt Plate" that allows for one-touch snare tension adjustment in five stages. DW's unique ideas are also incorporated into the functionality, including "True Pitch 50," which allows for more precise tuning by using a finer mesh than the conventional True-Pitch tension rod.
