The measurement of these fittings refers to the internal diameter of the required pipework. For fittings that are both barbed and BSP refer to the barbed as external diameter. So in case of a fitting with 16mm external diameter, it will be 13mm internal diameter. The 5mm (external diameter) fitting will fit perfectly onto any 4mm internal diameter pipework.
