The long-awaited Hata Motohiro signature model! The Hata Motohiro J-45 Heritage Cherry Sunburst, from Murphy Lab, is finally on sale! Motohiro Hata is one of Japan's top singer-songwriters, having debuted in 2006 with the single "Synchro," and will celebrate his 20th anniversary in 2026. In 2014, his hit song "Himawari no Yakusoku" (Sunflower Promise) set a record by remaining on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart for 150 weeks. Now, Motohiro Hata has partnered with Gibson Custom to release a new signature model, the J-45™ acoustic guitar. The Gibson Custom "Hata Motohiro J-45" was developed based on the distinctive 1966 J-45 that Hata Motohiro himself had used for many years. The "Hata Motohiro J-45" features a thermally aged Sitka spruce top and genuine mahogany back and sides. The mahogany neck has a distinctive late 1960s custom curved neck shape and a 1.575 inch (approximately 40 mm) nut width. The rosewood fingerboard is fitted with 20 large Legend frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The nut is made of bone, and the tuners are reliable Gotoh® strap tuners (cream buttons). The belly-up bridge is made of rosewood and features a bone saddle and cream-colored bridge pins. The Hata Motohiro J-45 features LR Baggs Anthem electronics. It combines an under-saddle transducer with a built-in microphone, and the controls are located in the soundhole, making them easy for the performer to operate while remaining largely invisible to the audience. The Hata Motohiro J-45 in Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish features ultralight aging by Murphy Labs, capturing the feel and atmosphere of the main guitar that Motohiro Hata has cherished for many years. It comes with an artist certificate and is housed in a hardshell case. Only 100 of these special limited edition models will be handcrafted at the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana, by skilled luthiers at Murphy Labs.Shape: J-45 Top: Thermally-Aged Sitka Spruce Sides/back: Mahogany Bracing:Traditional Scalloped X-bracing Binding: Multi-ply Top, Single-ply Back Neck: Mahogany Neck Profile: Artist Profile Nut width: 40.005mm / 1.575 Fingerboard: Indian Rosewood Scale length: 628.65mm/24.75 Number of frets: 20 Nut: Bone Inlay: Mother of Pearl Dot Bridge: Belly-up, Rosewood Pickguard: 50s Fat, Murphy Lab Cast Tuners: Gotoh Strap with Cream Button Plating: Nickel Electronics: LR Baggs Element Under-Saddle Pickup and Interior Bridge Plate-Mounted Microphone Controls: Soundhole-mounted Volume and Mix Knobs and Battery Check and Switches Preamp: LR Baggs Anthem Hard case included
