An experienced doctor who can't sleep due to a challenging operation. An elderly patient who finds a kindred spirit in a compassionate medical student. Families brought together by a serious illness. These are just some of the wide range of stories that cardiologist and writer Josef Veselka presents in his new short story collection 'Hospital.' Many of the stories tackle difficult themes – including the COVID pandemic – but also feature humor and, above all, professional insight that does not detract from the humanity of the texts. Most of the stories were also published in the magazine 'Friday' of the Lidové noviny newspaper.
