The Umbrella Company "Hitchhike Drive" is an overdrive/preamp inspired by vintage American-made tweed amplifiers. You can select from three amplifier modes (D/T/B). The GAIN knob setting allows for highly versatile sound shaping, from preamp-like boosts to mild crunch and cranked top boosts. Furthermore, we have prioritized responsiveness to guitar volume changes to achieve a comfortable amplifier feel. The Saturate switch allows you to turn the dynamic filter function (which applies mild compression only to the high-frequency range) on or off. The characteristic saturation of a vacuum tube amplifier can be made to follow the nuances of picking and the dynamics of the performance. 1. Pursuing the raw tone and gain structure of the D-mode tweed-era Deluxe amp. Around the top boost (GAIN 12/TB), you can get an organic and intense drive sound that makes the box of a compact amp seem to vibrate. Furthermore, you can vary the sound from a bluesy crunch to a boost while maintaining clarity, depending on the volume of the guitar and the strength of your picking. 2. T mode This amp-like sound has the deep presence of a Twin amp. At high gain settings, it delivers a glossy overdrive sound reminiscent of American rock, while at lower gain settings, it functions as a superb clean booster. Combining it with the Saturate switch adds the mildness and compression characteristic of tube amps. The fresh, vibrant clean tone allows chords to ring out with excellent clarity. 3. B mode This mode features higher gain than T mode, resulting in a sound with a more pronounced presence in the mid-low frequencies. Lower gain settings produce a smooth transition from natural clean to crunch, while higher gain settings deliver a bluesy, pleasing overdrive sound. Combining it with the dynamic filter (Saturate switch) creates a three-dimensional, vibrant tone.
