M-CSF: Used for the differentiation of CD14+ monocytes into unactivated M0 macrophages. IFN-γ: Initiates M1 polarization by activating the STAT1 signaling pathway. It induces pro-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-tumor macrophages. IL-4 and IL-13: Induce M2 polarization. They generate anti-inflammatory macrophages involved in tissue repair, fibrosis, and tumor promotion.
