In 1984, Noel Swerdlow and Otto Neugebauer argued that Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) explained planetary motion by using mathematical devices and astronomical models originally d eveloped by Islamic astronomers in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
