Between 1951 and 1961, musician Kennett Peacock (1922-2000) collected 766 songs and melodies from singers in thirty-eight communities, and two-thirds of this material was published in Songs of the Newfoundland Outports (1965). The Forgotten Songs of the Newfoundland Outports brings to light the best of the material which Peacock had omitted from his original publication. The collection has been prepared by drawing on Peacock's original music, textual and field recordings.
