In renovating an old building in the Gabalfa area of Cardiff, photographer Jon Pountney found some hidden treasures in the rubble. At first he found a few old prints lying around i n the dust. Further searching throughout the building led, eventually, to finding 3 books of negatives and over 300 prints showing a variety of scenes from locations throughout Cardiff as well as candid portraits of many of it's citizens. The book will consist of over 100 photographs, including the best of the collection as well as others by Keith Robertson and John Pountney. The photographs are of a high quality and are extremely atmospheric. They are evocative of an era no longer visible to any photographer. But it would also include the story of their finding; a contribution by the original photographer; a collection of the stories from Cardiff people that showing the photographs has brought to light as well as extracts form conversations on the Facebook page which show how people have interacted, through the photos, to share memories of Old Cardiff.
