Oscendale is determined to pursue his investigation despite being warned off by the authorities. He interviews soldiers in the trenches and travels to Swansea to question the dead corporal’s wife: when in Barry, tying up the loose ends of the case, Kathleen, a nurse in a relationship with Oscendale, reveals herself to be a German agent.
