Ofnau Tywyll: Y Meirw Byw (Dark Fears: The Living Dead) is a new comic strip in Welsh for teenage and adult readers. Lisa’s mum has recently died, and her dad’s a mad scientist. But despite her own personal tragedy she decides to go ahead with her 20th birthday party. With a thunderstorm raging outside, her friends come over to party at her house, a rambling building at the edge of town, next to the cemetery where her mother was buried. Everybody feels sick when her dad gives Lisa his present – her mother’s body brought back from the dead thanks to some chemical concoction he kept in the fridge. This is the exact concoction added by Steff, one of Lisa’s mates, to an impromptu cocktail he threw together – a cocktail that forced Ned, one of the other partygoers, to rush outside and puke. In the rain, his vomit is carried towards the cemetery and soon a plague of zombies gatecrashes the party, intent on death and destruction. As Lisa, Steff, Ned and Mari do their best to battle against the odds, a far more mortal killer is at work on the outside. The cops are baffled by this murderer, and are far from nicking him. Combined with the blood and gore at Lisa’s house, these multiple deaths give the police a headache. Who will carry the can for what’s happened? Will anyone believe the zombie story? And what will happen to Lisa, Steff, Ned and Mari faced with the Living Dead? Ofnau Tywyll: Y Meirw Byw is a comic strip aimed at readers over 13 years and adults. It contains the behaviour of young people over 16 years. Ofnau Tywyll: Y Meirw Byw is adapted from French by Alun Ceri Jones, one of Wales’ most prolific book translators.
