Erwein Sigismund von Thun-Hohenstein was executed by Soviet troops on February 12, 1946, as a major in the Wehrmacht. Several years after his death, someone suggested that his pers ona could be used for further communist propaganda. At that time, manipulated trials were taking place in Czechoslovakia.
