A fundamental publication for the field of midwifery. Psychoprophylactic preparation for childbirth plays a significant role in the comprehensive and effective psychophysical preparation, which is a prerequisite for managing physiological pregnancy and childbirth. Prenatal care and psychoprophylactic preparation are part of healthcare for women - mothers in European Union countries. The goal of psychological preparation is an individual and appropriately chosen approach to the mother-to-be, aimed at eliminating anxiety, worries, and fear, and fostering a positive attitude towards the entire childbirth process. The goal of physical preparation is to change ingrained bad habits regarding proper body positions, physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and to strengthen the use of the body as a whole. Another goal of physical preparation is to prevent cardiovascular complications. For the purposes of comprehensive preparation for the mother-to-be, many obstetric departments organize specialized courses, in which psychoprophylaxis aims to ensure good physical condition and psychological-theoretical preparation for the mother, teaching women various exercises to support physical fitness and strengthen muscle groups, particularly in the areas of the spine, pelvis, and abdomen.
