If someone could look at us from above, they would see a world full of exhausted, tired people and their lost souls. Once there was a man who worked so hard and so fast that he ran away from his own soul. He lived quite well without it — he slept, ate, worked, drove a car, and even played tennis. Only occasionally did he feel a strange sensation that the world around him had somehow flattened, as if he himself were moving only on a page in a math notebook, on paper covered with a dense grid of small squares... The first book by Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk is told not only in words but primarily through images. The touching story of patience, sensitivity, and returning to oneself is brought to life by artist Joanna Concejo. Her tender, melancholic illustrations give the reader immense space to pause and engage in a conversation with their own inner self.
