France, torn by wars between Catholics and Huguenots, and Paris in the second half of the 16th century form the backdrop against which unfolds a rich plot full of passions, duels, and intrigues that the young and poor knight de Pardaillan undergoes, aided by his somewhat cynical and brawling father. Together, they make a pair whose adventures and true Gascon exaggeration rival the main characters of Dumas's The Three Musketeers. Will knight de Pardaillan manage to escape the revenge of Queen Catherine de' Medici, overcome the wrath of Charles IX, the hatred of Marshal de Montmorency, and rescue the girl he has fallen in love with without having spoken a single word to her?
