The collected poetic works of Jiří Pištora represent one of the last significant publishing debts of Czech literature. Especially the first two collections by Pištora from the 1960s are practically unavailable today. Paradoxically, this still vibrant poetry has been 'lying' processed by an experienced editor for over two decades. The Host publishing house now presents an edition that includes three of Pištora's poetry collections, the most significant essays, a calendar dedicated to his life, and a section of documents. The effort to publish this edition has its origins in the 1970s, when, after the poet's death, his friend Dr. Dušan Karpatský began to process the texts. Jiří Pištora's work is closely related to the existential line of Czech poetry, represented by names such as František Halas, Vladimír Holan, and Oldřich Mikulášek. The features of the author's poetics include records of solitude and alienation, and the resulting anxieties. Pištora's poetry is a personal testimony about the search for a solid place in a world that is losing its logic, about a life that brings more questions than answers; it is a work whose timeless resonance is sealed by the stamp of the author's tragic death.
