The fifth volume of the Writings follows the four previous ones: Poems (Writings I), Travel Prose (Writings II), Essays and Columns (Writings III), and Paralipomena (Writings IV). It includes journalism not included in the previous Paralipomena, divided into the following sections: 1) In the Valley of Restlessness (Biography of E. A. P.), 2) Essays, Columns, and Feuilletons, 3) Greetings and Letters, 4) Glosses, Polemics, Reflections, 5) Surveys, 6) Reports, 7) Interviews, 8) Why I Am from Plzeň, 9) Addenda. All of this collected and selected from newspapers, magazines, anthologies, and books that were left aside in previous volumes – forgotten, overlooked, hidden. Particularly, the omission of the text about the American poet E. A. Poe (section 1) and travel reports would be almost inexcusable. The book is supplemented with a name index for both volumes of the Paralipomena. It is the final volume of the Writings of Miroslav Holub.
