An unconventional guide, following the successful title Brno under the Nazis, reminds readers of the dark period of Stalinism, which fundamentally transformed not only the city itself but also its inhabitants. It presents more than fifty locations, arranged on a timeline from the Victorious February to the echoes of the cult of personality. These are not only places associated with communist oppression, trials, persecution of the church, and class enemies, but also centers of power and venues for pompous celebrations. Other locations recall the fates of people who participated in the most important events, such as the powerful regional secretary Otto Šling, executed during the trial of Rudolf Slánský, the poet Jan Zahradníček, or the prominent Brno intellectual Čestmír Jeřábek. The book is supplemented with authentic memories and especially a wealth of unique photographs and documents from public and private archives and collections.
