The textbook covers all the topics prescribed by the RVP for elementary schools regarding the geological part of the non-living nature and ecology – an overview of geological sciences, the significance of geology for humans, the structure of the Earth and its geospheres, everything about the main minerals and rocks, internal and external geological forces and processes, soil, groundwater and springs, the history of the Earth and life on it, and regional geology of the Czech Republic. From ecology, it discusses the basics of ecosystems and the relationships between living and non-living nature, food chains, the cycle of materials and the flow of information in nature, an overview of global ecological problems with an emphasis on selected major issues, nature conservation worldwide and especially in the Czech Republic, and domestic ecology. The textbook is illustrative, addressing topics practically. It emphasizes the economic significance of basic minerals and rocks, highlighting their main importance for humans in their everyday lives. There is also a focus on repetition and final summaries of the material. However, additional information, topic expansions, various interesting facts, and especially test questions cannot fit into the textbook. These are provided on the publisher's website.
