We have modified and used a lot of Greenmax's "Machiya Toshimotaya" and Kurazukuri kits, and added noren (bamboo screens), sudare (bamboo screens) and dog fences to give it a Kyoto feel. It is part of Kyoto's culture to hide the backyard and interior of the house from the public. It is also a part of Kyoto's culture to hide the back garden and internal parts of the house from the public, unlike the open-door style of downtown Tokyo. We have tried to emphasise the silvery waves of the roof tiles.
