A for Effort #3 (2024) by Clarisse Abelarde is a striking self-portrait that captures the fragmented nature of contemporary self-perception. Using oil, acrylic, and gold leaf on panel, Abelarde employs an additive and destructive layering process, revealing and obscuring form to create a surface rich with history and depth. In this 26 x 16-inch work, the artist depicts herself taking a selfie while brushing her teeth in the bathroom—a moment of routine elevated into a meditation on self-image, presence, and impermanence. The interplay of delicate gold leaf and raw, painterly textures amplifies the tension between materiality and ephemerality, making this a compelling reflection on personal and digital identity. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork, signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Please note: all sales are final.
