Elsa McKinnon is an historian and biographer of somewhat less than world fame. Fat, funny and lumbering aggressively toward her fifties, she is a European who was unfortunate enoug h to have been born in the Antipodes, a mistake she is unlikely to forgive but has sought to rectify by escaping to London at an early age. This story is about her visit to the land of her birth - a brief sojourn made for the purpose of severing once and for all her remaining connections.
