Size:25 x 12 in. John Waterhouse’s A Time for Reflection II, measuring 17 x 4 inches, captures a serene and contemplative moment within the British countryside. This panoramic painting showcases Waterhouse’s mastery of light and atmosphere, as soft mist blankets the landscape, and gentle reflections ripple across the still water. A solitary figure adds a sense of scale and introspection, inviting the viewer to ponder the beauty and quietude of the scene. The composition, with its delicate tonal variations and subtle textures, evokes a profound sense of peace and connection to nature. John Waterhouse, born in 1967, is celebrated as one of Britain’s most versatile oil painters. His works range from atmospheric landscapes to beautifully rendered figurative pieces, each infused with his passion for the beauty found in the world. Waterhouse’s creative process begins with an emotional connection or memory, which he meticulously translates into sketches and preparatory work before completing the final oil painting. A self-described student of light, he focuses on how it interacts with his subjects, whether it’s the glimmer on water or the dappled glow through leaves. Starting his career teaching art to young offenders, Waterhouse realised the transformative power of creativity, a belief that continues to drive his work. Today, he is recognised as one of Britain’s most acclaimed and collectable landscape artists.
