The Acacia senegal produces a resin known as gum arabic. The dried resin of this tree has been burned over hot charcoal for thousands of years to be used in ceremony and in every d ay ritual cleansing of space and body. Incense was burned as an offering to the Gods with the belief that the smoke carried one’s prayers up to the heavens.
