What do we offer?Join our physiotherapist to learn simple, effective, and fun exercises to strengthen muscles and improve balance, while reducing risks of falls for as long as possible.2. Why do we do it?Otago was tested locally, and demonstrated to be the most effective for reducing falls and fall-related injuries among older adults and those who have had a previous fall within one calendar year.Otago also increased the percentage of older adults who were able to live independently in their community. 3. Why with us? Research shows that improving physical fitness have shown a direct reduction in the risk of falls among older Malaysians. Researchers from University of Malaya, Sarawak General Hospital and Curtin University, Australia used the Otago Exercise Program to improve physical fitness and successfully reduced the number of falls in older Malaysians. This exercise program is also proven to be beneficial for those with joint problems like osteoarthritis , in people with walking problems, and also in people with balance problems. ACT4Health is a spin-off company of the University of Malaya and the business arm of the Ageing and Age-associated Disorders Research Group, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. Where is the assessment conducted?The assessment will be conducted in ACT4Health centre, whichprovides a conducive venue and setting to conduct the assessment. You will be contacted by our Trained Assessor to give a briefing on the process and how the session will be conducted. The trained Assessor will begin the session when everything is properly setup and provide you with the consultation at the of the session. 6. How long is the process?The duration of the therapy depends on your performance. On average it will be about one hour to one and a half hour 7. Flow of the service & Device involved? Trained Assessor will perform a list assessment (kindly refer the flow chart)Once the assessment result is obtained, it will be given to you during the consultation. If needed, support planning, where we work with you and your family to identify appropriate support systems and interventionsfor both of you and family, ensuring that you continue to live your life well 8.
