Product Overview Actichem Orange Solvent is a concentrated citrus blend for removing oily marks and gum from carpets and fabrics. It contains a super strength blend of d-limonene t erpene solvents and emulsifiers for removing tough gum, oily soils, grease and paints. Orange Solvent has been specially designed to enable effective rinsing with clean water or an extraction detergent solution. It is suitable for use on all carpet fibres, fabrics and hard surfaces. However, some surfaces are solvent sensitive, including various carpet backings, some plastics and polymer coatings. Application Areas and Surface Suitability Carpet cleaning — spot removal of oils, gum, grease, sticky residues, paints and cosmetics. Household multi-purpose — sticky marks off tables, chairs, utensils, sinks, fridges and similar. Bathrooms — shower screens, vanities, tubs and tapware. Laundry — as a pre-wash stain remover. General use — offices, workshops, construction sites, schools and similar. Do not use on solvent-sensitive surfaces, including bitumen-backed carpeting. Choosing Between Orange Solvent and Gum Gone Both remove gum and adhesive. The difference is what they are made of. Gum Gone is over 60% xylene and Poisons Schedule 6. Orange Solvent is citrus and hydrocarbon based, Poisons Schedule 5, with no xylene. For work in occupied premises — homes, childcare, aged care, schools — Orange Solvent is the better choice, and it rinses with water, which Gum Gone does not. Gum Gone remains the stronger product on the most stubborn adhesives. Use it where you need it, not by default. How to Use Read and understand the safety data sheet before use. Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity to chemicals. Dilution: ready to use — no dilution necessary. Sponge or scrape up any surface spot material. Apply Orange Solvent to a clean white absorbent cloth and apply to the spot. Orange Solvent can also be applied to severe stains and hard surfaces using a trigger spray bottle. Blot or tamp to remove the spot. Do not rub. Deep spots may need light brushing. Work from outside to the centre of large spots. Repeat if necessary. Rinse or extract with warm water or an emulsifier solution. Apply to the cloth, not the surface, wherever possible. It limits how much solvent reaches backings and adhesives, and it reduces the vapour you breathe. Safety This page already told you Orange Solvent is hazardous and to wear gloves, goggles and protective clothing. That was right, and it is preserved below. What it did not tell you was which hazards, and one of them is serious. This listing previously recorded only “Safety profile: Class 3 Flammable” — a transport classification. It has been corrected. Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP128, version 2.5 issued 18 June 2025, classifies Orange Solvent as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the Model WHS Regulations. Signal word: DANGER H226 — flammable liquid and vapour H304 — may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways H315 — causes skin irritation H317 — may cause an allergic skin reaction HAZCHEM code: •3Y Poisons Schedule: 5 ⚠ H304 — the hazard the old wording hid H304 means may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. With a hydrocarbon solvent the risk is not poisoning from a large dose. It is that a small amount reaching the lungs — from swallowing, from vomiting after swallowing, or from siphoning by mouth — causes chemical pneumonitis, which can be fatal and can develop hours later. Never siphon or transfer this product by mouth, and never decant it into an unlabelled drink container. Orange Solvent smells like citrus and looks like water — that combination is exactly why it must stay in a labelled container. If it is swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse the mouth with water and call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor immediately. Vomiting is what draws it into the lungs. Symptoms can be delayed. Anyone who has swallowed it needs medical assessment even if they seem fine. ⚠ H317 — d-limonene sensitisation H317 means repeated exposure can sensitise you permanently. The sensitiser is d-limonene, which makes up 30–60% of this product. Sensitisation is not ordinary irritation: once you are sensitised, you stay sensitised, and thereafter even brief contact can trigger a reaction. This is the reason to wear gloves every time rather than only for the messy jobs. Citrus solvents are often treated as the “safe” option because they smell pleasant — on skin contact, they are the one most likely to cause a lasting problem. If a rash develops, stop using it and seek medical advice. Flammability Actichem do not state a flash point; treat it as flammable regardless. Keep away from ignition sources, hot surfaces and sparks. Vapour is heavier than air and will collect in sub-floors, pits and confined spaces. Ventilate before and during use, and never use it near an operating heater or a truckmount exhaust. Do not mix Actichem list these as incompatible with Orange Solvent: Strong oxidisers and oxidising acids Peroxides Halogens, vinyl chloride, iodine pentafluoride Chlorine bleaches and pool chlorine In practical terms, keep it away from Chlorosan, Stain Fix, Conquer O2 and Spotaway U. Solvent-soaked rags stored with an oxidiser is a fire, not a theory. Personal protective equipment Actichem specify nitrile, PVA or Viton gloves for this product. Glove material is not interchangeable across our solvent range — the material specified for Gum Gone, for instance, is PE/EVAL/PE, not nitrile. Also wear chemical goggles or safety glasses with side shields, protective clothing, and use a respirator with an organic vapour filter where ventilation is limited or the product is sprayed. Use warning signage where the public may be present. First aid Swallowed — do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse the mouth with water. Immediately call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor and tell them the product is an aspiration hazard. Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water, holding the eyelids open. Seek medical attention. Skin. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with soap and water. If a rash develops, stop using the product — see the sensitisation note above. Inhalation. Move to fresh air. Seek medical attention if breathing is difficult or irritation persists. ⚠ Dangerous Goods — Freight Orange Solvent is classified UN1993, Class 3, Packing Group II, and there is no pack-size exemption. Unlike several Actichem products which are not regulated at 5 litres or less, both the 5 litre and the 500 ml are regulated for transport. If you are consigning it rather than carrying it yourself, tell your freight provider it is dangerous goods. A DG shipping surcharge applies.
