Double-pointed needles have been around since at least the 13th century. Circular needles were first patented in 1918. Smaller sizes (US 0–5 / 2–3.75 mm) only come in 8" length needles. Medium sizes (US 6–8 / 4–5 mm) come in both 8" and 10.2" length needles. Larger sizes (US 9–11 / 5.5–8 mm) only come in 10.2" length needles. Please note that Addi labels some smaller needle sizes with a different US size than is standard. The millimeter sizes, however, are standardized across all brands. We have opted to list the standard US needle sizes on this page as we have found this more often prevents people from ordering the wrong size accidentally. If you're not sure which needle size is which, go by the millimeters for best accuracy.
