Borgo delle Tovaglie has been hand-making linens in a Bologna atelier since 2005, run today by Valentina Muggia and Giuliano Di Paolo. The shape is a baroque cartouche - the scroll ed, cusped frame that has bordered names and coats of arms in Italian palazzi for centuries. Borgo Delle Tovaglie's Adele puts it around a place setting, stripped to the line that defines it: the outer edge bound in a contrasting colour, and a quieter version of the same shape echoed inside in a line of dotted embroidery. Two frames, no flourishes. Each mat is hand-cut to the shape, made in heavy Italian linen with the house's stain-resistant treatment. Show more
