Adler is one of the most well known typewriter brands: the company was formed in 1896 and released its first typewriter, the Empire, in 1898. In 1899 it released and improved version, the Adler 7 or Model 7, which is still recognised as one of the greatest typewriters. The most successful model released during the 1950s was the Adler Universal. The company continued to produce popular models until it closed in 1995.
