A rarely seen, huge-growing bromeliad from the resting of eastern Brazil. Formerly known as Streptocalyx floribunda, this species is a rare sight in collections. Much sought for us e in landscape, especially in botanical gardens and zoos, it is spectacular in or out of bloom. The inflorescence is massive, mostly green, reaching eight feet tall or more. The leaves are stiff and very wide, up to ten inches across, light green with silver banding below and with moderately sized but very sharp spines.
