A stout plant with wide, deep-green leaves heavily armed with long black spines, growing in an open rosette to 30 inches or so. The inflorescence is an attractive head of tightly c lustered, lilac colored branches and bracts. A Brazilian native from Espirito Santo that is rather uncommon in collections.
