Helsinki’s Aedes play Death Metal that will satisfy those deep in the DM trenches, but also with a degree of Hardcore/Thrash “crossover” appeal. Saying that, there’s no compromise or pandering here. The immediate energy makes the bands links to Yleiset Syyt and Foreseen make complete sense but as ‘Odious Imprecation’ unfolds things become more twisted, bewildering, cerebral and unrelenting. Aedes exist near the gratifying junction of early death metal and technical thrash, bringing to mind new and old favs Sovereign, Sewercide and Pestilence, with Morbid Angel-like uncanny riff labyrinths revealing themselves more with every listen.
