Bottlebrush Buckeye. The aristocrat of native shrubs, this spectacular flowering plant produces white flower spikes of up to 2 ft. in early summer, the latest flowering of our nati ve buckeyes. It sports a brilliant yellow fall color that will stop traffic. Great for sun or part shade, but in the Deep South it would do better with some afternoon shade. Broader than high, it will reach 10 to 12 ft. in time and if left unattended, it can have a spread of up to 30 or more feet. Every garden should have at least one. Southeastern native. Zones 4-9a.
